James Salander, MD, FACS is a vascular surgeon certified by the American Board of Surgery in both Vascular Surgery and General Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery. Her has more than 30 years of experience, and his practice is devoted to problems of arteries, veins, and lymphatics. He has a long-standing and special interest in the treatment of symptomatic varicose veins.
After his internship, residency and fellowship, Dr. Salander practiced vascular and general surgery in thye US Army. His last assignment was as Chief of Vascular Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He left the Army after 23 years of service and was in solo private practice in Rockville, Maryland for 26 years. He joind the GW Medical Faculty Associates in the fall of 2015.

Notably, the free, downloadable Vascular Health Activity Book for Children ages five through 12 features Blood Buddies who guide children on a learning journey. Through activities such as a maze, word search, penny board game, secret code, and coloring pages, children learn the importance of exercise, healthy eating, and not smoking.
